Our Story

The Free Range Book Club was founded by Alice Clark and Mary Conner-Righter in 2024 as an OLLI Penn State book club. The term "free range" describes the various genres of books our club encompasses. The club meets monthly from 2:00-4:00 pm on the 3rd Monday of each month, either in a member's home or other location.

Each time we're ready to determine new books, members nominate up to three books for consideration. Members send nominations in the form of a book’s title & author, number of pages, and format(s) the book is available in as well as a paragraph description of the book (without giving the plot away). Book nominations are sent to Mary Conner-Righter. Mary then compiles list and emails it to members to vote for their preferred six books. Mary then lets members know of the six chosen books which, at the next meeting, members will determine what books to read for upcoming months, and who will facilitate the book discussion, and who will host the monthly meetings, and where we will meet.

Each member of the club is asked to either facilitate discussion of the book or host for a month.
